From Ecuador to Real Estate Investor: Tatiana Chango’s Journey to Financial Empowerment

With Ttina Chango

Show summary

In this episode, Tatiana shares her journey from Ecuador to the US, her focus on empowering Latina women through real estate and personal development, and her methodology ‘Mujera Poder’ that combines education, faith, and empowerment.

Key takeaways

  • Tatiana bought her first investment property using a credit card after being inspired by Robert Kiyosaki's YouTube videos, then grew her portfolio over the years.
  • She built her methodology 'De Mujer a Poder' (From Women to Power) to help Latina women reconnect with their own power through both internal transformation and practical financial/real estate education.
  • Her core advice: establish 'inner order' and personal alignment before trying to build external success like wealth or a business.
  • She emphasizes discipline over motivation: build small daily habits that become automatic, like a pilot on autopilot, rather than relying on fluctuating motivation.
  • Be selective about relationships; surround yourself with people who challenge, support, and help you grow rather than those who hold you back ('water the plant, remove the weeds').
  • Purpose matters more than goals because purpose acts like tree roots that keep you grounded through difficulties, while goals driven only by emotion can waver.
  • She recently finished a bilingual (English/Spanish) book on her journey from Ecuador to the American dream, aimed at supporting women pursuing personal and financial empowerment.

Questions answered in this episode

How did Tatiana Chango get started in real estate investing?

She was working a regular 9-to-5 job as an educator, raising kids, and started watching Robert Kiyosaki's YouTube videos for inspiration. She bought her first investment property using a credit card and then began accumulating more properties over the years.

What is 'De Mujer a Poder'?

It's Tatiana's methodology, which translates to 'From Women to Power.' It's a platform focused on total transformation for women, especially Latina women, combining internal personal development with practical education on real estate and financial empowerment.

Why does Tatiana emphasize purpose over goals?

She says goals can be driven by fluctuating emotions, like deciding to diet one day and giving up the next. Purpose, by contrast, acts like the roots of a strong tree that keep you grounded through storms and difficulties, making your decisions more intentional and sustainable.

What operational advice does she give for building discipline?

Start with small daily habits rather than waiting for motivation. Stop and reflect first to get your 'inner order' in place, then build consistent small actions that eventually become automatic, similar to a pilot flying a familiar route on autopilot.

How should investors think about relationships in business, according to Tatiana?

Be intentionally selective about who you surround yourself with. She compares it to tending a plant: water the relationships that help you grow and remove the people or influences that hold you back, since the people around you shape your thinking, confidence, and opportunities.

Before any business begins, let’s begin with clarity. Understand what problem you wanna solve to serving to serve others, understand who you want to serve, start before

Everything feels perfect because a lot of times we wanted to see, when I have time, when I’m done with this problem, and then you keep postponing. So that takes away from everything that you’re testing to be. Start even if nothing is perfect. Learn continuously, build relationships, and most importantly, develop the discipline to continue even when the results are not immediate. Right. Because like I mentioned before, patience is a big

thing to be able to build the business that you want to build.

Quentin Edmonds (02:13)

Hello, everyone. Welcome to the Real Estate Pros Podcast. I am your host, Q Edmonds, and I am excited to be here today. I have a fantastic guest,

I’m excited about her vision. She has created a methodology that’s really gonna help Latino women and well, listen, she’s gonna empower women, period. But I love the fact that she just definitely wanna make sure she hit the Latino community. She is an educator, she is a leader.

She has so many different things that’s going on that’s really gonna help people thrive and be successful. And so I am really excited for us to have this conversation with Miss Tatiana Chango. How are you doing today, ma’am?

Tatiana Chango (02:56)

Doing well. Thank you for having me today, Quentin.

Quentin Edmonds (02:58)

Absolutely. Thank you so much for being here. And listen, I am the type I like to dive right in. So I would love for you to tell the people what’s your main focus these days. If you don’t mind, give us a little bit of an origin story, kind of how you got into the space that you’re in, and then tell them what markets you’re operating in. And so, ma’am, Tatiana, you have the floor, ma’am.

Tatiana Chango (03:18)

Thank you. I’m currently having a strong educational leadership foundation. I’m from Ecuador, came in when I was 17, and from a modest family and but where education was the main focus. I grew up with my grandmother because my mom came to the US when I was 17. So I grew up with my grandmother and she taught me, faith.

Ser to serve others to persevere and always follow your dreams. So when I came to the US, I started I struggled with many things, with language, with immigration status, with discrimination and things like that. So I fast forward, became an educator, completed my educational degree, got my master’s degree, my doctorate degree, and then

After that I decided like what do you need to do? What else is there for you? In the meantime, I was working, regular job, nine to five, I had my kids, being a mother, being a wife, and doing other things that normal people do every day, and started looking at the videos from Robert Kiyosaki. And that inspired me to start my venue in real estate. So I’m like

Okay, if he was able to do it, I’m able to do it. So I started like listening to his YouTube videos and learning about what how he did it and just kind of replicate and started doing that way. I remember when I bought my first investment property, I used a credit card and I bought it using a credit card. So I’m like, if he did it, yeah, I can do it. So and then I started accumulating properties throughout the years.

Then I started like learning about the digital world and I’m like, I’ve always seen the phone as an instrument of again education. And I see people like use it for different reasons. And in my case, I started learning in how the digital world can support others in a larger scale. So I I created a methodology like you mentioned, which is called the De Mujer a Poder in Spanish and English is From Women to Power.

As women, we have a lot of power and then starting to learn learning about the real meaning of the word power, right? With the word power from De Mujer a Poder, for me it’s more much more than a name. It represents a journey of transformation. Because many women are already powerful, but sometimes life experiences, maybe responsibilities, fear, financial limitations, even like self-doubt, lack of direction, disconnecting from that power.

And from De Mujer a Poder was created to have women, especially Latina women that are going through the same things that I went through, to reconnect to who they are, recognize the value and intentionally build the life that they truly desire. So that’s a platform focused on total transformation. We work on the internal and external areas of a woman’s life because I don’t believe success is just in one area, just becoming rich through real estate. Doesn’t make you

a whole person. So I believe like in order to have a fulfilled life, true power comes from alignment. And that’s why I strongly working and focusing my energy on De Mujer a Poder so I can teach other women how to acquire real estate, how to get financial means through the digital world as well. But mainly like first be yourself, reconnect to yourself, go back to your purpose in order to achieve greater success.

Quentin Edmonds (06:43)

Yeah. Thank you. Thank you so much for taking me through the journey. Let me know, how you got to where you are, what you’re focusing on. My wife too is an educator. She’s been educated for twenty-four years. She’s educated in elementary school. She’s a she was a teacher for a good majority, well, ten years and been a counselor for 14 years at a Duolingo school and

In DC. So yeah. So she very dear, y’all, as you talk, I’ve heard her say so many things of the way, she empowering kids and empowering women within her community. So I I’m I love the mission that you’re on. And I love the way that you’re going about it. And so of course, coming from Ecuador, you talked about some of the transitions that you had to make. And Miss Tatiana I always say destiny has no wasted moments.

Right. We are learning from each leg of our journey. And I would love to know what has this journey revealed to you about yourself? Has it increased your discipline? Has it made you more humble? Like what is this journey revealed to you about you?

Tatiana Chango (07:44)

It definitely has teaches me patience. It’s

Quentin Edmonds (07:48)

Yeah.

Tatiana Chango (07:48)

definitely patience because as women we want everything immediate and we want it to be the person like the know it all that does everything. And so I had to go back and think about I need to be patient, I need to be patient and go back to my purpose, because once I completed my doctorate, to me like

What else do I do after that? Like I feel like that was the highest degree. And then I couldn’t, think of anything else. I’m like I need to go back and find my purpose to allow me to move forward. Yeah. So I think the biggest lesson is that without that purpose, I can’t really move forward. Purpose is about understanding who you are, what matters to you, what you want your life to represent. So when

I had that clarity about my purpose, my decisions become more intentional.

Quentin Edmonds (08:39)

Mm-hmm. No, I love it. One of my mentors says, when who you are, what to do. And so I love the fact that you said, and I wrote it down when you said it, purpose more than goals. Why do you lean more purpose more than goals? Why do you lean so heavy on purpose?

Tatiana Chango (09:44)

Yes, because you can have goals, for example. Goals can or emotions can drive you goals. I’m going to start dieting. I’m going to lose weight, right? But then you have that goal in mind, but if you don’t have a purpose behind if sometimes we are not guided by the right ideas and the emotions can go up and down. Sometimes we’re happy, sometimes we’re sad. So I feel like the purpose will keep you down to your roots.

It’s like those strong trees that you see on the st on the parks. And if you’re not of course able to see the roots, but the roots are the ones that sustain the tree branches. So when a storm comes by, if it’s not a strong root, then something could happen. And things can happen along the road. Things can change. Difficulties, problems, it’s part of life. But if you are strong to your purpose.

I feel like whatever goal that you have in mind can be accomplished as long as you go back and be true to yourself and the purpose that give that direction that direction for power.

Quentin Edmonds (10:49)

Yeah, I love that. I love that you use the analogy as a tree because one thing that I’m learning before a tree grows up, it has to grow down first. How you talk about the roots, like the roots have to be sure. And so before it springs up to something beautiful and strong that we see, the strength has to happen down first in the body. And so

One the things that we have to do that has to be happened is it has to be planted, right? There has to be something seed went down to nurture another seed. And so when I think about that, I think about operational things, like the little things that have to happen in order for things to grow. And so I would love to know as you’re empowering women, talking to women and women that’s watching today, can you give them maybe one operational tip?

One operational thing that maybe they can put into place that will help them be successful today.

Tatiana Chango (11:37)

Yeah, so that’s basically like the whole idea of the methodology. When we’re talking operational, we’re talking about discipline. Okay. So the things, the little things that they do, transformation requires more than motivation, right? Motivation can inspire you, but discipline is what keeps you moving when motivation disappears. So start building small habits that will become a larger part of your

goals, larger part of your things. For example, if you are trying to learn about finances, okay, you first need to be having an inner order, an inner order that creating, that mental and personal alignment. Because many women might be managing careers, businesses, families, responsibilities and expectations, but internally they might feel overwhelmed, disconnected.

So before they build in externally, most we must create an order internally. So my advice would be like first stop because sometimes think people think, that’s an action. That’s an operation that they have to do immediately. Okay, but stop and reflect is one immediate action that every woman should do. They should stop and reflect and get purpose, get their inner order in order to become daily and small habits into a discipline.

That you can’t even think about it. For example, when you have like a pilot, that pilot one day might not be as happy as the other day, but they have an autopilot and they know like a certain route that they’re going to be flying to. So the same thing when you start becoming stronger, and then you are going to be an autopilot some days. But you are already going to have built these habits that will take you for a daily action.

And that discipline is the bridge between intention and the results that you’re going to achieve.

Quentin Edmonds (13:24)

Yes, ma’am. So you the way you talking, you’re talking like one of my favorite books is Atomic Habits. And it’s everything you everything you say it resonates in this book. And I love how you talk about discipline over motivation. One of my mentors, they say consistency beats intensity any day. So that discipline of just doing just that daily habit and then stacking on top of that, it will it would definitely build out systems that is gonna help you out and can last the test of time.

So what’s next for you, Miss Tatiana? Like what you looking to solve next or scale next, like release next? Like what’s next for you?

Tatiana Chango (14:42)

So I recently finished writing a book, so I’m hoping to and an and it’s an English edition in English and Spanish. So my book it’s talks about this women from women to power and the race to the American dream. And because it’s dedicated to women, Latina women that might have come with a different idea of the American dream. So and throughout my s experience and the things that I’ve went through

trial and error because never not everything is the right way. My purpose is to support other women around the world, establish a focus, whether it’s personal focus, financial focus, because financial empower is essential for personal empowerment. A women should understand money, opportunities, investment, and how to make informed financial decisions, Yeah.

Because I mean, yes, everything is going together. Financial independence gives women options and options create freedom. So that’s why my next thing is to do that. To continue with my brand, De Mujer a Poder for Women to Power. I’m mainly starting in the Spanish community, but looking forward to expand maybe next year, because the next six months it’s gonna be dedicated to

The book is gonna be dedicated to my community because I do have a community of women that we share different things. Like I say, it’s not just about making money, it’s about be stronger so in difficult times we can, supersede that and we don’t, feel like as stress. Yeah. And we are the result of

Who do we surround by, like the people around us influence our thinking, our confidence, our opportunities, and our growth. So power relationships are built through communication, boundaries of collaboration, mentorship, all those meaningful connections, because we grow faster when we are surrounded by people who challenge us, support us, and believe in our potential. So my next venue venture is

to continue providing this methodology to the women that are ready for a true transformation.

Quentin Edmonds (16:46)

Yeah. I mean you literally walked me into my next question and I want us to expand on a little bit more relationships. That was literally where I was gonna go because I wanted to talk to you about or have you talked to the people about the power of making

healthy connections, healthy relationships in life and in business. So we you talked about a little bit. I want you to expand on it a little bit more. Talk to us about why relationships is so important. And then talk about some of the relationships that you have within your sphere that has really helped you be successful.

Tatiana Chango (17:19)

Yeah, so basically, when I talk about relationships, it talks about a different approach, right? A holistic approach because especially I come from a culture where you are friendly to everybody. Like then you really have to intentionally make a point where you need to be selective. Not because you’re going to put people aside or not care about other people.

Be looking at that being a co-person, I believe that you can truly transform one area of your life if you, well, you cannot transform if you are with that friend that tells you, okay, let’s go do the wrong things in life. Really have to be selective to be able to go to the next level, And that’s something that I have always learned when I was younger with my with my grandmother.

And this had draw me clarity, accountability, and transformation because again, when you learn this to identify individuals, who they are, what they bring to you, and just to make the two buckets of what makes you grow and then maybe what maybe it’s like a plant, right? So if you look at a plant that is well taken care, people usually take the weeds out and water them. So I feel like I see that as a the same way.

So if you have positive relationships and a relationship that’s gonna help you grow, then you wanna water that plant. You gotta take away the other things around that can damage that plant. So it’s the same thing in your personal or financial life. If you wanna grow financially, of course you want to start learning more about finances. If you wanna grow personally, start learning about personal development, but always surround yourself with people that’s gonna help you grow.

Quentin Edmonds (19:00)

Yeah, So well said. I always look at relationship and word community. Those two I think are intertwined. And I say community is common unity. It’s people who have the common unity of the goal in place and they come together and have common unity. Or with relationship, is like we’re in a ship and we’re relating together. So who’s gonna do what within this ship? Who’s gonna be the captain? Who’s gonna be the co captain? Who’s gonna roll the boat? If it’s a rowboat, who’s gonna steam the engine?

Like we all know our roles and so I love how you said it’s not that we’re trying to cast anybody aside, but I have to be in relationship in a community with people of the same unity that know what we’re relating about and what we’re working towards. And every time everybody can’t always fit in the ship, everybody can always fit in the vessel. And so I think brilliantly said, I appreciate you so much for expanding on relationship. Thank you so much.

Ms. Tatiana I want to open up the floor so I can make sure you land that message if there’s something on your mind and in your heart.

Tatiana Chango (19:59)

Yeah, I know this podcast was intended to related to business and I have talked about business but in my approach I wanted to tell the women or people that are listening to me that before any business begins, let’s begin with clarity.

And it’s not about having a great idea, it’s about developing the person who can consistently execute that idea. And through that, being the example for other people and leave that legacy because ultimately when we’re not longer in this life, we’re not going to be able to take anything that we built as far as like actives or maybe money, whatever the things that we have built

monetarily here, but we can leave that legacy of providing support to others through different venues. Like when I decided to support other women, I wanted to let them know that if I was able to do it despite the odds, despite everything, all the problems that I had, I want them to know that it’s possible. A women should feel power in any aspect in their lives. So I just feel like this is

The message that I wanna leave behind.

Quentin Edmonds (21:44)

I love it. I appreciate you so much, ma’am. Listen, if someone wanted to reach out to you, connect with you, collaborate with you, learn more about what you’re doing, how can they get in contact with you?

Tatiana Chango (21:55)

Yeah, they can definitely look at my website, www.demujerapoder.com and my phone number is (610) 335-6278. Due to the high value of calls, sometimes like I if I don’t pick up the call, just leave a message and I’ll get back to you or text me and w what you can reference to. And definitely I’ll get back to you.

Quentin Edmonds (22:18)

Absolutely. Well, listen, let me say three things to you sincerely. One, thank you for your time. I think time is our most precious commodity. So thank you for giving us some of your time today. Really appreciate it. Secondly, thank you for your story. Thank you for the gift of your authenticity, your gift of your representation, the gift of I would even say your vulnerability. I believe our stories plant seeds for people, and we never know we’re no seeds, and we talked about seeds.

We never know when it’s gonna take root. We never know when it’s gonna grow, but the seed is there. So thank you for coming on and planting some real seeds for people. That’s really gonna help them grow. And then lastly, thank you for your mindset. Thank you for the way you think and bringing that mindset to this platform. I greatly appreciate you coming on today.

Tatiana Chango (23:04)

Thank you, Quentin. Thank you for having me today. I appreciate that you also took your time to get to know me and I just wanna thank you from the bottom of my heart. I really appreciate it. This has been an amazing conversation. And I appreciate you also sharing with me your knowledge.

Quentin Edmonds (23:20)

I think she has been with some people with somebody watching has been waiting for. So please get in contact with her. And definitely make sure you’re subscribed here because I promise you we’re going to continue to bring up amazing people, just like thee, Miss Tatiana. So, ma’am, I say thank you again. And everyone else, y’all have a fantastic day.
